Quotes from BRIEF HISTORY OF ANTICHRIST by Rev. P. Huchede, Catholic Priest, 1884, and Other Catholics Concerning the Man of Sin

In 1884, Huchede speculated, among other things, that the anti-Christ would be Jewish, that he would establish world government from Jerusalem, that he would be welcomed as the Messiah by the Jews, that he would re-build the Temple, that he would eliminate the daily sacrifice of the Catholic Mass, that from the moment when the perpetual sacrifice is terminated, the great and terrible persecution -- lasting three years and one half --will immediately follow, and that the Anti-Christ, as foretold in the Apocalyse of St. John, will make all men, great and small, bear a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, which sign only time will reveal, and all who refuse to do so will be ruthlessly persecuted, etc. He also believed that the world is headed towards a time when all nations blend into one "universal fusion of political unity", the exact nature of which he does not specify, but which, he suggests, will come about through the action of "secret societies scattered thoughout the world."

"When Antichrist shall have conquered all his enemies, power shall be given him over all tribes, peoples, languages, and nations; he will be the first Jew to reign over the whole world. When he shall find himself master of the world, he will choose for (his)_ capital the city in which Our Lord was crucified. (Apoc. 11:8). If he did otherwise, he would fail to make the Jews recieve him for the Messiah since their hearts will be fixed on terrestial glory and Jerusalem, in their esteem, must be the sojourn of the Messiah. Then by order of the tyrant the continual sacrifice shall be abolished. (Dan 9:27) The holy sacrifice of the Mass shall no longer be offered up publicly on the altars. The Church shall be devastated; the sacred vessels desecrated; the priests shall be scattered and seperated from their flocks and put to death. The beauty of new Sion has vanished! Her priests sigh; her streets resound with wailings and lamentations becauses there is no one found to assist at the solemnities of the Lamb. The Church has taken her abode in the catacombs. (Jerem. "The Prophet informs us that from the moment the perpetual sacrifice shall cease, which shall be the beginning of the general persecution, 'they shall be delivered into his hands until a time and times (and) a half a time' (Dan 7:25) This he repeats in the twelth chapter, and St. John employs the same expression to signify the time during which the woman, figure of the Church, will tarry in the desert. 'And there were given to the woman two wings of a great eagle, that whe might fly into the desert unto her pace, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time from the face of the serpent.' (Apoc. 12:14) St. Jerome remarks that the term 'a time' is generally employed in Holy Scripture in the sense of a year; the second term 'tempora' is translated by the plural form because the Hebrew and Greek texts employ the dual. the words of the sacred text should therefore be interpreted, 'a year, two years and a half year."

However, the determination of the number of months removes all equivocation on the subject, as specified in the Apocalypse. 'And the holy city they shall tread under foot two and forty months,' (11:12), which is equivalent to three years and a half. Finally, to remmove all possible doubt on the matter, God has even revealed the number of days that the persecution will last: 'The abomination of desolation,' after the cessation of the perpetual sacrifice, must last, according to the Prophet, '1290 days.' (Dan. 12:11). In other words, three years and a half with a few days over. Hence, it is certain that this terrible persecution will last during three years and a half." Rev. P. "...he [anti-Christ] will declare his design of rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple and of bringing the whole world under his domination. The carnal Jews, finding these prophecies in perfect harmony with their own prejudices, will easily acknowledge for the Messiah, the one whom they desire. And after having first despised and socrned him, they will subsequently recieve and proclaim him king. [Dan. 11:21]. According to St. Cyril of Jerusalem [Cath. 15], he will win the esteem and attachment of mankind by his urbane and unbounded kindness." -- 1884,

Other distinquished Catholics, both ancient and modern, anticipated that the Anti-Christ system might be the fufilment of the Jewish messianic prophecies:

"Such a secular, earthbound state (Israel) could easily become the political and military power base for the Antichrist when he comes. For the Antichrist will be in perfect accord with the ideals of such a Zionist state... Moreover, the State of Israel has demonstrated that it has the will and ability to go to war and win the secular goals to which its heart is attached. Thus when the Antichrist comes to power as head of such an efficient, superbly equipped, scientific State, founded on 'nationalism, race and blood,' he will be able to conquer the rest of the world. He will be the first, the only Jew to reign with political, economic, military power over the whole world from his capital city, Jerusalem, the city in which Our Lord was crucified." E. Michael Jones, a contemporary Catholic writer, speaking of Saint Hippolytus of Rome and his view of Antichrist, wrote: "The same carnal messainic political desire for heaven on earth that led the Jews to choose Barabas over Christ will lead the Jews who perdure in the rejection deeper into the service of the devil until they finally, it is argued, bring about the reign of Anti-Christ. ... The Kingdom of the Antichrist, Hippoytus says, is a Jewish operation. Just as the Antichrist will bear 'many apparent similarities to the true Christ', so too 'the Jewish people over whom Antichrist will rule will bear many apparent similarities to the people of God.' ... The Antichrist, according to Hippolytus, 'will resurrect the kingdom of the Jews.' The Antichrist thus will be the culmination of Messianic politics. He will establish the superceded ethnic Israel as heaven on earth, but that heaven will be a hell for Christians." (E. Michael Jones, The Jewish Revolutionary Spirit, pp. 171-172)
